Example ET Measurement with the M8190

An envelope tracking (ET) measurement is used to evaluate the improvements of power efficiency and output signal performance after using envelope tracking. For a power amplifier (PA), envelope tracking and digital pre-distortion (DPD) can be used together. In this example, only envelope tracking is applied to the PA under test, using an M8190A as the envelope signal generator, and an M8190A with a PSG as the RF signal generator. From concept of view, it is similar to envelope tracking done with bench top instruments. The only difference is the hardware used in this example.

The whole measurement process includes the following three parts.

  1. Setting up the measurement system

  2. Configuring parameters in the N7614C software

  3. Executing the measurement and viewing results
